Don’t worry, of course these cartoons will be back for another season (hopefully and most likely) but for now the Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad – three family-oriented cartoon animation series from Fox – closed out their seasons last May 17 with a bang.
The Simpsons started the party rolling at 8pm with the episode “Coming to Homerica,” a satire of a 1988 film of Eddie Murphy. It features the story of Homer and his makeshift band of border patrol group. This was a consequence of the unemployment in the neighboring town of Ogdenville which caused a mass evacuation to the Simpsons’ town of Springfield. Ogdenville hit a recession when the local factory of Krusty the Clown’s veggie burgers was affected by tainted barley. Homer was tasked with protecting the border of Springfield. It served as a fitting conclusion to the show’s 20th season (and counting).
Family Guy, on the other hand, centers on the discovery of Peter of a significant tidbit in his history. In the episode Peter’s Progress, Peter undergoes a palm reading by a psychic and discovers that he was a respected 17th century gentleman by the name of Griffin Peterson. During this time, the town of Quahog was just a newly-established colony. Family Guy aired at 9pm.
A half-hour later, American Dad wrapped up the amazing season finales with the episode Stan’s Night Out. Stan decides to have a boys-night-out and leave Francine at home. It starts off with a few drinks, but ended recklessly when compromising situations keep getting in the way. Also on the episode, Roger and Hayley try to attract a frat boy using their charm.
