Paris’s Method Animation is rendering the classic novel of Antoine de Saint-Exupery THE LITTLE PRINCE back to television. With a budget of 18.4 million euro ($27.5 million) the new production is set to appear next December. A 3D animation version is also in the works.
The Little Prince tells the story of a philosophical little boy who hops from planet to planet and acquires simple truths along the way. Yoshikazu Yasuhiko’s once developed the concept for a 1980s anime TV series.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, La Fabrique d’Images, India’s DQ Entertainment, Germany’s ARD and Italy’s RAI Fiction are all in the mix for the production of the project.
In addition, Method and game producer MK2, via their MKO joint venture, will create a videogame tie-in.
PGS Entertainment has pre-booked the series on television stations such as France 3, WDR (Germany), RAI (Italy), TV2 (Denmark), TV2 (Norway), ABC (Australia), MTV3 (Finland) and TSR (Switzerland).
