During the MIX09 Conference last March 17, 2009, Microsoft releases the first beta of Silverlight 3, a programmable web browser plugin which is hyped to be the end of the era of flash animation.
This release adds 50 new features, including the capability to run applications outside of a browser and more high definition video features. Other products previewed were the Expression Blend 3 web design and development tool, Web Platform Installer 2.0 Beta, the Windows Web Application Gallery, and Microsoft Commerce Server 2009 and Azure, Microsoft’s cloud computing platform.
“In the short time since we launched Silverlight and Expression Blend, Microsoft has rapidly introduced new features and functionality that enable customers to deliver outstanding Web sites,” said Microsoft’s Scott Guthrie at the MIX09 Conference. “We are working closely with the community to deliver software that helps businesses provide customer experiences on the Web that go beyond ‘good enough’ and drive real business results.”
Silverlight 3 adds new graphics, animation and 3-D features, and over 60 controls to enable developers to build rich internet applications (RIAs). Are we seeing the last days of flash animation?
