For the first time, India finally has licensing rights for two of Walt Disney’s most beloved cartoon characters Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. This comes after a character licensing agreement between Disney Publishing Worldwide (India) and Junior Diamond. The two will star in comic books which will be available both in Hindi and English.
“The launch of comic books in Hindi reinforces our commitment to localise our stories and connect with the Indian consumers through content that is appealing and relevant,” says Roshini Bakshi, regional director of Disney Consumer Products, Asia and India
The comic books will cost R4.50 and new Mickey and Donald stories would be released every month.
Mickey Mouse is the iconic cartoon characterWalt Disney Company. He was created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks and was initially voiced by Walt Disney himself. His birth is celebrated on November 18, 1928 upon the release of the animated short Steamboat Willie.
On the other hand, Donald Duck is a white anthropomorphic duck with a yellow-orange bill, legs, and feet. He usually wears a sailor shirt, cap, and a red or black bow tie, but no trousers (with the ironic exception of his swimming) swimming). Donald’s most famous trait is his easily provoked and occasionally explosive temper.
Donald’s iconic voice was initially performed by voice actor Clarence “Ducky” Nash up to 1983. It was largely this semi-intelligible speech that would cement Donald’s image into audiences’ minds. Here is one of the most loved early animation shorts featuring Donald Duck, Donald Gets Drafted:
