FX Channel is on a roll with licensing the TV rights of popular and recent feature films. Now, they got the 3D animation studio Dreamworks on a surplus by inking a deal from 2008 to 2012.
Through this agreement, the cable channel FX can now broadcast box-office high-grossers such as Kung Fu Panda, Shark Tale, Shrek and a lot more.
Moreover, this includes upcoming heavyweights such as Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Shrek Goes Fourth, the sequel to Kung Fu Panda and their most recent success Monsters vs. Aliens. Led by the voice dubbing of Hollywood personality Reese Witherspoon, Monsters vs. Aliens is now the highest-grossing-weekend record holder for this year with $59 million.
“Every year, DreamWorks Animation produces some of the finest films made by any studio and were incredibly excited to strengthen and broaden the FX library with the addition of their titles through 2012,” said FX executive vice president Chuck Saftler in a statement. With the deal that was granted by distributor Paramount Pictures, FX become the first non-pay cable TV to have the rights for the first TV premiere.
FX Channel has been very aggressive in securing the TV broadcasting rights of recent top-grossers in the box office. Beyond their licensing deal with Dreamworks. FX has already acquired the rights for Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, and the upcoming 3D animation-powered sci-fi film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen which is bound to hit theaters this June 24.
