The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting that the local government has provided incentives for the shooting of John Carter of Mars, the latest brain child from the tandem of Disney and the 3D animation studio Pixar, in Utah from November 2009 to July 2009.
Take note that this is a live action film and not an animated movie in the tradition of Toy Story and the most recent hit Up. Utah will be the milieu for the setting of Mars.
John Carter of Mars tells the story of an American Civil War veteran who was suddenly transported in Mars where he faces all sorts of adventures there. This is an adaptation of the science fiction book of Edgar Rice Burroughs.
This is not the first time that Utah has been depicted as an outer space ecosystem. It was used as a double for the Planet Vulcan in the blockbuster movie Star Trek.
The shoot is expected to last for 45 days and locations to be used are the Beehive State, Lake Powell, and the counties of Moab, Kane and Wayne.
