After Sylvester Stallone’s relatively failed attempt to launch Judge Dredd into stardom in 1995, the reboot Dredd 3D may not have made much money in theaters but it was a critically acclaimed movie. Now it will be made available for Blu-Ray and you can watch the trailer for that here in the MediaFreaks 3D Animation Studio Blog. In spite of its success, director Pete Travis believes that he may not return to direct Dredd for a part two.
But director Travis believes the future is bright for Dredd. Here are his thoughts from an interview:
I read Alex Garland’s script two years ago, and I fell in love with it then. I have enjoyed the whole process of working on that with him, and bringing it to the screen. It was extraordinary.
I hope they get the chance to make another one. I think Dredd is an extraordinary character. I think Karl Urban captured him so perfectly. I think there is a real beautiful future there.”

I wonder why Travis doesn’t think that he will return to direct a sequel; I just got the chance to watch Dredd in 3D the other night, and I thought Travis did a pretty good job. I upgraded to a DISH Hopper DVR along with a 3DTV last week, and I had a few of my DISH coworkers over an inaugural 3D movie viewing party Sunday night. We voted on what movie to watch, and Dredd 3D was the winner. An action movie like Dredd was a great choice to test out my new home theater setup. The 3D effects looked so awesome on my TV that I don’t think I’ll be wasting money at the movie theaters anymore.
