How can a short teaser trailer receive 4 million streams in its first day online? The secret formula seems to rest on a very accomplished director/writer who is the man behind Titanic and the Terminator franchise: James Cameron.
Cameron’s latest opus, Avatar, broke Apple.com records for the release of its original trailer. The original number was 1.7 million views. The 4 million views of the Avatar trailer was more than enough to shatter that figure.
Avatar is widely hyped because it is the first major movie project of Cameron after all his previous box office titans. Moreover, there are many technological advances in this film which even attracted the curiosity of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. These developments are digital 3D animation and e-motion capture.
“I think all those questions about ‘Can they do it?’ ‘Will it live up?’ — that’s going to be set by the wayside,” says Cameron in an interview with MTV news in Comic-Con in July. “So now, in a way, you’re free to enjoy the world and enjoy the ride. That’s why I don’t mind showing stuff at this stage.”
Avatar is set for release this December 18 and will be available in iMax theaters all over the world. It introduces the world to a distinct race of towering blue aliens and man’s unsatiable thirst for power.
