3D Printing is a new technology which makes it easier for animation studios to manage their original film content. This new technique is able to shorten the time it takes to produce moving pictures. Using a specialized printer which works with an additional dimension, 3D printing can create casts for stop motion animation which may be very cost-effective and time-efficient. One of the more recent films which will prominently use 3D printing is Sony Picture’s Pirates! “Band of Misfits.” The second official trailer of that movie can be watched before:
A special aspect of the Pirates! Band of Misfits was the creation of 8,000 mouths for all its characters. This will be useful for talking scenes. Production is now on its last stages for this 3D animation film powered by stop motion animation and claymation. A 3D printer works by printing a file which has three dimensions. Because of this, animators don’t have to remake their shoots. All they need to do is organize the shoots involving talking mouths only to maximize time.
